In Mayan tradition, birds are understood as divine messengers, intermediaries between the human and divine realms. They are capable of carrying messages and omens. The quetzal, a sacred bird in pre-Hispanic traditions, symbolizes divinity, freedom, and a connection to the spiritual world.

In this piece, the birds are embodied by young men in puberty, an age in which feminine and masculine energies coexist with particular intensity. The flapping of wings becomes a gesture of awakening, a shaking of old ways of seeing in order to perceive the world with renewed clarity. It invites a softer gaze, one connected to the feminine aspect within ourselves. Once awakened, this vision becomes crystal clear, allowing the fullness of the self to emerge and making sensation vivid.

The actors are members of the LTCI company, a collective of professional performers formed by peasants and Indigenous people from the coasts of Tabasco, Mexico.

This piece is part of Re[Membrar], a multi-year project conceived as a series of six events.
