Lady from the Sea
WaxFactory
Performance
2001 / 2003
Inés Somellera performed in LADYFROMTHESEA, a site-specific multidisciplinary installation/performance by WaxFactory, with installation design and direction by Ivan Talijancic. Inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s 1888 drama The Lady from the Sea, the work unfolded throughout the Old American Can Factory in Brooklyn, activating rooftops, corridors, fire escapes, loading docks, freight elevators and other architectural spaces as part of a non-linear performance journey.
Through movement, sound, video, installation and text, the piece expanded Ibsen’s symbolic world into an immersive reflection on nature, desire, memory and freedom. Developed through a multidisciplinary residency at BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, the project premiered in 2001 and was later restaged in 2003 for the Triennial International Ibsen Conference.
