Xalisco, a place / JAKARTA
Installation Performance
2017
Inspired by a line from Juan Rulfo about the fading of memory, Xalisco, A Place honors the intensifying memories of homeland shaped by time and distance. Built as a dream sequence, random, contradictory, irregular, and unpredictable, the work rejects linear narrative. Conceived as a stage poem, it fuses dance, theatre, light, and music into a single matrix of space and time.
The piece was first presented in 2017 as an installation/performance in a black box at Salihara Art Center in Jakarta, Indonesia (LIFEs Festival). It was later presented as a site-specific performance in Bangkok, Thailand (LOW FAT ART FEST, 2019), at the International Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico, and toured in Guadalajara (Conjunto Santander de Artes Escénicas) and Mexico City (CENART). The project was developed with an international and intercultural team from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Belgium.
